PPP consultation event in Ljubljana, Slovenia

A PPP consultation event was organized at Brdo pri Kranju conference centre in Slovenia. Experts from the field of telecommunications in Slovenia were invited: Goran Živec (Vahta d.o.o.) a representative from the private sector, Zoran Vehovar a representative from Telekom Slovenije, the incumbent operator in Slovenia as well as Katja Mohar Bastar, a representative from The agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia (AKOS).

They each presented their point of view regarding the broadband situation in Slovenia and what could be done to improve the broadband penetration. Goran Živec presented his experiences in building and maintaining small open-access broadband networks built with the help of the GOŠO projects (Building Open Broadband Networks). Zoran Vehovar explained the issues that they as an incumbent operator face while trying to expand their network and achieve the goals of the Digital Agenda. It was also very interesting to hear the point of view of the regulatory agency which is an independent body that regulates and supervises the electronic communications market, manages and supervises the radio frequency spectrum in the Republic of Slovenia, and performs tasks in the field of radio and television broadcasting. The presentations sparked a lively debate on the issues of broadband in underserved areas.
